Lensology Photography and Video was brought in last year, pre-Pandemic, by our friends at Global Arts Project and the Collins Park Neighborhood Association to create a sizzle reel for their Milonga dance event featuring Anibal Berraute, his band and dancers, and guest vocalist Mariana Quinteros. Anibal Berraute is one of the most internationally renowned pianists on the Tango scene. He is a musician with classical training, who has covered different styles of popular music as a pianist, arranger and producer. The event was well attended by the cool jazzers of Miami Beach and we had surprise visits from Tito Puente Jr and Nestor Torres who were kind enough to appear in photos and the video.

Collins Park and the Culture That Lives There

Collins Park in Miami Beach is one of those special public spaces that manages to feel both laid-back and culturally alive at the same time. Tucked between the Bass Museum of Art and the Miami Beach Regional Library on Park Avenue, it sits in the middle of one of the most artistically vibrant neighborhoods in South Florida. It has long been a gathering place for the kind of people who care deeply about music, dance, and the arts, and that energy makes it a natural home for events like this Milonga. When the Collins Park Neighborhood Association and Global Arts Project reached out to Lensology, we knew immediately that this was going to be a special production. The setting, the talent, and the community around it were all pointing toward something memorable.

Who Is Anibal Berraute?

To understand why this event carried the weight it did, you have to understand who Anibal Berraute is. He is not simply a Tango pianist, though he is one of the finest in the world. His background in classical music gives his playing a precision and sophistication that sets him apart from his contemporaries. Over the course of his career he has worked as a pianist, arranger and producer across multiple genres of popular music, bringing a breadth of musical intelligence to everything he touches. When Berraute sits down at the piano, particularly in the context of Argentine Tango, the room changes. There is an authority to his playing that commands attention, and yet there is also an warmth and an emotional openness that invites the audience in rather than keeping them at a respectful distance. Having the opportunity to film him and his ensemble in the intimate open-air setting of Collins Park was genuinely exciting for our team.

Mariana Quinteros and the Voice of the Evening

Joining Berraute on stage was guest vocalist Mariana Quinteros, whose presence added another dimension to an already extraordinary lineup. Tango singing requires a very particular kind of emotional honesty. The great Tango vocalists do not hide behind technical flourish. They communicate directly, with vulnerability and conviction, and Quinteros delivered exactly that. Capturing her performance on camera required the same sensitivity that the music itself demands, knowing when to hold a close-up, when to pull back and let the moment breathe, and when the relationship between singer and musician told a story that the camera simply needed to follow.

Surprise Guests: Tito Puente Jr and Nestor Torres

One of the genuine highlights of the evening was the unexpected appearance of Tito Puente Jr and Nestor Torres. Both are Miami music legends in their own right, and having them show up to support the event spoke volumes about the regard their peers have for Berraute and the cultural significance of what Global Arts Project and the Collins Park Neighborhood Association have been building. We were thrilled to capture them in both photos and video, and their presence gave the sizzle reel an added layer of excitement and credibility that you simply cannot plan for. Sometimes the best moments in event videography are the ones that nobody saw coming.

Creating the Sizzle Reel

A sizzle reel has one job: to make anyone who watches it wish they had been there, and to make anyone planning a future event want to be a part of what comes next. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on every production of this kind. For this Milonga, our approach was to let the music drive the edit. The rhythm of Berraute’s playing, the flow of the dancers, the energy of the crowd, all of these became editorial cues that shaped how we assembled the footage. The result is a piece that feels alive, that communicates the atmosphere of Collins Park on that evening, and that does justice to the exceptional talent involved.
